Almost Raw Spiced Oatmeal

Spiced Oatmeal
from Raw Food, Real World

3 cups oat groats, soaked for 5 days
1 cup maple syrup
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbs ground cinnamon
2 cups golden raisins (optional)
2 cups dark raisins (optional)

1. Soak the oatmeal in water for five days, changing the water and briefly rinsing the oats at least once per day. You can cut down the soaking time by using warm water or eat it sooner if you don't mind a little coarseness.
2. Drain all of the excess water from the oats. In a food processor, pulse together the oats, syrup, salt, cinnamon, and golden raisins until the oats are broken down and the mix is oatmeal-like consistency. Enjoy!
It is really nice with chopped fresh apple or banana and nut milk. You could also warm it up a little in the dehydrator. I also added chia seeds to mine. Yum!

Now, what is not raw about this recipe? The maple syrup. The sap that is gathered from the maple tree for a period of about three to four weeks in the spring is boiled to refine it, turning it into a thick syrup by steaming off excess water. If you're strictly raw, try a different sweetener.

That book is awesome! Read it cover to cover, and really wish I could make more of the recipes.

I love this book too! I hope to try doing a raw food diet for a few weeks.
